Video quality is good in well-lit rooms — sharp, accurate color, minimal lag on the live feed. In dimmer conditions, image quality drops noticeably. There’s no auto-tracking or privacy shutter.

Vivint: Indoor Camera

Vivint’s Indoor Camera also shoots 1080p but adds features the Nest Cam doesn’t have. The standout is auto-tracking — the camera physically follows movement across the room, keeping subjects centered in the frame. It also includes a physical privacy shutter you can close from the app when you’re home.

Two-way audio is clear, and the camera’s AI can distinguish between people, pets, and other motion. The wider 155-degree field of view covers more of the room without a secondary camera.

Indoor Winner: Vivint

Auto-tracking alone gives Vivint’s indoor camera a meaningful advantage for monitoring rooms. The privacy shutter is a welcome physical control that the Nest Cam lacks. If you’re already in the Google Nest ecosystem and value cross-device compatibility, ADT’s Nest Cam is perfectly capable — but Vivint’s camera does more.

ADT: Google Nest Cam Outdoor

ADT’s outdoor camera is the Google Nest Cam (battery or wired), delivering 1080p video with HDR, a 130-degree field of view, and IP54 weather resistance. It detects people, vehicles, and animals when paired with a Nest Aware subscription. The magnetic mount makes installation flexible, and the battery version eliminates wiring concerns.

Daytime footage is sharp and well-exposed. Night vision uses standard infrared with a usable range of about 15–20 feet — adequate for front porches and driveways, but fine detail (faces, license plates) drops off quickly beyond 10 feet.

Strengths: Flexible battery/wired options, magnetic mounting, decent weather resistance. Weakness: Standard IR night vision, no active deterrent features (no siren, no spotlight), limited AI without Nest Aware.

Vivint: Outdoor Camera Pro

Vivint’s Outdoor Camera Pro is purpose-built for perimeter security. It records at 1080p HDR with enhanced dynamic range for challenging lighting — backlit scenes, dusk, and mixed sun/shade. The 140-degree field of view is slightly wider than the Nest Cam Outdoor.

The real differentiators are the built-in deterrent features: an integrated spotlight, a two-way speaker, and an audible siren. The camera’s AI-powered “lurker detection” identifies someone lingering near your property and can automatically trigger the spotlight and a pre-recorded warning message before you even check the app.

Night vision combines infrared LEDs with HDR processing, producing clear footage up to 40 feet — enough to identify faces at the end of a driveway and read license plates on the street.

ADT offers the Google Nest Doorbell in both wired and battery versions. It records 960×1280 (3:4 aspect ratio) HDR video — a tall, narrow field of view optimized for seeing visitors head-to-toe, including packages at their feet. Person and package detection is included with Nest Aware.

AI detection includes person, vehicle, and package recognition. The auto-respond feature lets you set pre-recorded messages that play when the doorbell detects someone at the door — useful for delivery instructions. Two-way audio is clear and responsive.

Integration with the Vivint Smart Hub means doorbell presses trigger an alert on the panel, every phone in the household, and any paired smart speakers simultaneously.
